This widget is awfully small for what it does. You should look at some older planetarium program that model the sky as a celestial sphere where the horizon can be turned off and the projection changed to ecliptic or glalactic or the map projection of the sphere changed. I run xephem under X11 under Tiger when I want a good map. Your widget can be run larger.
This is designed to be a Widget, and not a full application (and so is, by design, limited to a smaller size). I've been considering writing an application that includes capabilities like armillary and orrery, but I've yet to determine the market (and obviously there are already a number of commercial astronomy products out there, and if I can't come up with something better, there's not much point it spending the time and effort)
