I don't know what the H & D are that show the planets?

Also, the transit refers to the midpoint in the path, right?

Transit is when the object crosses the zenith ("straight overhead").

The "H&D" (or "H&N") refer to an obscure medieval concept of "planetary hours" (or uneven hours), where the day & night were each divided into twelve equal periods between sunrise and sunset (or sunset and the next sunrise). It was an interesting idea, but obviously proves to be way to tricky to be practical (made worse by the concept of governing planets for both the day and hour), but I figured since the orerry was basically a medieval invention (showing the "celestial spheres"), it made sense to throw in some other medieval "technology".
