simple, neh? can't find this in the gui or docs... thanks for any help!

You should just be able to select a transform in the skeleton view (the one showing all the 'F's) and hit the delete key
And layers are basically "fixed" (and don't really exists as objects unto themselves - they are more like properties that are assigned to a flame).
