Trying to add NWoD Rolls to the Dicebar, no luck

Post by phasmaphobic » Thu Mar 07, 2013 1:47 pm

I notice that the dice bar has multiple instances of rolls for the Old World of Darkness series, but none for NWoD. I looked at the main support page, and it says:

""nWoD" Storyteller systems don't use the "rolls of 1 subtract", so the correct formula would be "5d10>8". If you want "open ended rolls" (where you roll again on a 10) you'd do "5d+10>8", or if you want 10's to count as two successes, "5dXX>8""

So I followed the basic flow of the other things already on the dicebar, and added:

d+10>8

But all it does when I roll is total the results of all the dice. Sadness.

Is there a quick formula to add NWoD dice to the Dicebar? Roll Xd10, add another die on a roll of ten, count successes of eight and higher? And rolls of one do nothing.

The easiest way to deal with this is to make a roll macro (short version of the issue: Dice Bar can only contain dice or dice with roll macros, not ones with "reducers" which often need to look at group of dice, and when dice are rolled one-by-one it is ambiguous what the "group of dice" it needs to look at are).

So, Custom > Roll Macros > Create Macro
Name: WOD
Desc: WoD
Default Dice Sides: 10
Color: Black (or whatever)
Has Target Number: Off
Actions:
if face < 8:
Re-Roll: N/A
Badge: None
Sound: None
Value: 0

if face = 10:
Re-Roll: Split
Badge: Plus
Sound: None
Value: 1

if true:
Re-Roll: N/A
Badge: Bolt
Sound: None
Value: 1

You can now use "d10WOD" (which will automatically be abbreviated as dWOD since the default sides is 10) in a die bar, and everything 8 and 9 are worth 1 (with a little floating bolt), 10 is also worth 1 and rolls agains (with a Plus)

Thanks for the response! I put this in, and the resulting pops and actions are cool, but I notice that none of the 10s rolled are being counted in the success total.

For example, if I roll a single die and get a ten, it pops and re-rolls. If it gets a 3, it stops, a little x floats around it, but then I get told I have 0 successes.

I mean I guess that isn't a big deal, really. It's easy enough to just count the floaty badges. Cool. This works well. Thanks again!

Weird, but easily fixed.

Change the actions to:

Actions:
if face < 8:
Re-Roll: N/A
Badge: None
Sound: None
Value: 0 + tot

if face = 10:
Re-Roll: Combine
Badge: Plus
Sound: None
Value: 1 + tot

if true:
Re-Roll: N/A
Badge: Bolt
Sound: None
Value: 1 + tot

(Change that one Re-Roll to "Combine" and the values to "+ tot")
