The gesture system is impressive, but also rather opaque for beginners. It might be nice if when the gesture "snaps" it also displays a textual description somewhere on screen. Then I can check, say, whether I am about to drop an item or go down the stairs, before allowing the gesture to complete.
Looking forward to nethack.
Off to check your other software...

Not only does the new and improved version give you the textual description, it also draw a faint grid on the screen to make it easier to tell where you are "drawing".

in my humble opinion, gesture grid should be square and it's size should be the same both in portrait mode, and landscape mode.
too broad gestures in landscape mode are not very comfortable.
the same applies to a simple direction buttons, they are too far apart.
i see the square grid in the center of the screen as the best solution.
